What is floss sugar?

Floss sugar, also known as cotton candy sugar, is a finely ground sugar that is specially formulated for making cotton candy or fairy floss. It is typically dyed in vibrant colors to create the appealing and visually attractive cotton candy cones commonly found at circuses, theme parks, and fairs.

Floss sugar is essentially a combination of granulated sugar and flavoring or coloring agents. It has a fine consistency, almost similar to powdered sugar, which allows it to easily melt and create delicate sugar strands when heated.

The sugar strands created from floss sugar are what form the signature texture of cotton candy. The process involves heating the floss sugar in a cotton candy machine until it liquefies, and then spinning it rapidly against the sides of the machine, causing the sugar to solidify into fine threads. These threads are then collected on a cone or stick to form a fluffy and sugary treat.

Floss sugar is available in a variety of flavors, including traditional favorites like blue raspberry, strawberry, grape, and cotton candy. It can also be found in more unique and exotic flavors such as bubblegum, watermelon, and even bacon.

Apart from its usage in cotton candy machines, floss sugar can also be used for other purposes such as sprinkling on desserts or adding a touch of sweetness to baked goods.

It is important to note that floss sugar is primarily made up of sugar, so it should be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. Additionally, it is not suitable for individuals with diabetes or those who are trying to limit their sugar intake.
